Programme profile

Classes are smaller, when compared to the majority of medical schools: thee are no more than 60 students in each year, which will increase student-teacher interaction and productivity. Each student will be assigned to a personal mentor: a doctor that will help and guide the student through the years of the course.

The university operates an innovative integrated ‘block’ curriculum, which means that you will always be at the center of the teaching process: lectures in the morning, seeing patients with those conditions you studied in the afternoon.  it uses Problem-Based Learning (PBL), through which you work in groups with other students to set your own learning goals. This approach encourages pro-active learning, creative thinking and teamwork.

There is no traditional division between the two pre-clinical years and the four clinical years. In fact, you will re-visit topics from your first two years in the fourth and fifth years. You will also have the possibility to sit American licensure exams during the MD course, thus saving you precious time and money. The sixth year is virtually free of teaching and exams, allowing for a possible period abroad, giving you get a better chance to get into the residency of your choice.

Other key features of the programme are:

- the complete integration of US professional licensure examinations into the course curriculum. At the end of the six-year programme, students will immediately be able to enrol in European or US residencies or postgraduate training. Similarly, the curriculum has been designed to allow those students interested in US postgraduate training to spend their final year abroad and take part in the pre-residency programs required for their future enrolment to US residencies.

- 13 ECTS credits (more than 300 student hours) devoted to the Humanities (philosophy, ethics, human sciences, philosophy of science and language and communication skills). This part of the course aims to develop the students" humanistic knowledge and concentrates on effective physician-patient and peer-to-peer relationships
